Chatswood Home Reclad

A residential home in Chatswood, on Auckland's North Shore, comprehensively re-clad and refinished into a crisp, contemporary exterior. The finished result speaks for itself, with clean lines, careful detailing and a quality of finish that sets the house apart from the street.

The Project

A Complete Exterior Reclad in Chatswood

This home in Chatswood, on Auckland's North Shore, carried an older painted exterior that had aged across its faces. The homeowners engaged AGJ Construction to strip the original cladding, re-weatherproof the house and refit a new, crisp exterior, a full residential reclad that would refresh both the look and the long-term protection of the home.

The scope ran across the whole exterior: the old cladding was removed, the substrate and framing checked and prepared, and the home re-clad in a new weatherboard system with careful detailing around the entry, gable, windows and roofline. The finished home reads cleanly from the street, a light, contemporary exterior with a striking timber-gable entry and crisp junctions throughout.

A Complete Exterior Transformation

Before & After

The change is the point of the project, and the quality of the finished exterior carries it. A tired, painted older home replaced with a crisp cream-and-black contemporary elevation, careful detailing, and a striking gabled entry that anchors the whole design.

The Recladding Process

Strip-Out, Re-Wrap and Re-Finish

Recladding is a carefully staged job. The finished exterior of this Chatswood home reflects the discipline applied through each stage before it, because a reclad only looks this clean when the work behind the cladding is done properly.

01. Strip-Out & Substrate

Removal, framing and preparation

The original cladding was removed so the underlying structure could be inspected and prepared. This is where a reclad is won or lost, on the quality of the substrate the new exterior is built on.

Because every stage had to keep the home weathertight, the strip-out and re-build were sequenced carefully, the same care that shows in the straight, crisp lines of the finished exterior.

02. Re-Clad & Refining

Weatherproofing and the new finish

With the substrate sound, a new weatherproofing system was installed and the home re-clad in its new weatherboards. Joinery, gable and roofline interfaces were integrated as a single system so water is kept out at every junction.

From this stage the works build top-down, with each layer shaped to a quality finish, the start of the detailing that makes the completed exterior feel considered rather than simply replaced.

Detail & Finish

Where This Project Sets Itself Apart

This is a reclad with a particularly strong finished result. The close attention to the exterior detailing is what makes it read so well from the street, and what will keep the home performing for years.

The quality is in the considered timber gable, the clean reveal around every window, and the crisp junctions where cladding meets roof and entry, details that separate a professional reclad from a simple re-dress.

The Details That Carry the Finish

  • Timber gable and entry feature detailed to a clean, deliberate finish
  • Consistent reveals around dark-framed windows and doors in the new cladding
  • Weatherboards scribed neatly to soffits, fascias and roof junctions
  • Crisp external corners and tidy cladding-to-timber transitions
  • Entry threshold finished to a neat, precise detail
  • Penetrations sealed and integrated into the new exterior
The Finished Home

A Home That Reads as New

The finished Chatswood exterior is light, crisp and contemporary, with a cream-and-black palette, a considered timber gable and clean detailing throughout. This is the result the reclad was always about.

What This Project Shows

How AGJ Approaches a North Shore Reclad

Recladding is considerably more than replacing the visible exterior of a house, and its value is proved in the finished result. This Chatswood project shows the care AGJ applies right across the exterior, and why it's worth getting right.

Chatswood is one of two North Shore recladding projects AGJ has completed alongside Birkenhead, consistent, high-quality recladding work across Auckland's North Shore.

  • Staged strip-out and re-weatherproofing so the home is protected at every step
  • Substrate checked and prepared before the new exterior goes on
  • Clipping and junction detailing set the finished exterior apart
  • Joinery, gable and roofline integrated into the same weatherproofing system
  • Consistent finish across every face of the home
  • A completed exterior that reads as new, not simply re-dressed
